THE THIRD TRIMESTER:
28 to 40 Weeks
MONTH 7
What's Going On:
Growing and more growing — both of you. Your baby may have topped 3 pounds; you're heading for 25 by the end of this month. If you could see inside your uterus, you’d be amazed at the amount of activity. Your baby is making faces,
hiccupping, crying, kicking, and elbowing you. If you start to feel a frequent twitch in your rib cage just below one of your breasts, there’s a good chance those are feet and your baby is now in the head-down position it’ll stay in until birth.

MONTH 8
What's Going On:
Your baby will gain more than half its birth weight in the next seven or eight weeks, causing your uterus to expand to more than 1,000 times its original size! You may even be able to detect the shape of a head, foot, or elbow through your abdomen. Finger- and toenails have developed, and if you’re having a boy, his testes are descending. The baby’s bones are hardening, but the head will remain pliable to maneuver through the birth canal.

MONTH 9
What's Going On:
If you’re lucky, something called lightening, the point at which the baby slips down into position for birth. Not only is it a sure sign that things are moving along nicely, but your heartburn and shortness of breath will let up. Then again, you may feel like you have a football between your legs, putting more pressure on your groin, thighs, and bladder. If your baby is still transverse (sideways) or breech (feet or bottom first), we may want to discuss the possibility of a cesarean.
